Hello everyone. Keqiao Textile City in Shaoxing is a nationally renowned textile hub. Recently, I’ve been thinking about how to better integrate TPU film with the local textile industry to give full play to their respective advantages. Today I’d like to share some thoughts with you, all of which are purely my personal views.
Some people may not be familiar with TPU. To put it simply, it feels as soft as rubber yet boasts the toughness of plastic. It is also eco-friendly and recyclable. Nowadays, it is quietly revolutionizing accessories used in daily clothing, bags and shoes.
For example, the waterproof and breathable performance of outdoor jackets relies on TPU. It also contributes to the flexible, comfortable soles of running shoes. Moreover, it is widely used in the popular seamless apparel. Thanks to these outstanding advantages, TPU has sparked a minor revolution in the textile accessory industry.
Why is TPU so popular in garment accessories? The answer is quite simple — its advantages are highly practical.
- Exceptional wear resistance: It is more wear-resistant than common natural rubber. When applied to easily worn parts such as garment cuffs and shoe soles, it greatly improves durability.
- Adjustable hardness: Its hardness can be flexibly tuned to be softer or firmer. Even when set to a harder grade, it still maintains excellent elasticity, making it ideal for laminating sportswear.
- Durable and sturdy: It features impact resistance and shock absorption. Small accessories on garments such as buckles and pull tabs can last much longer when made from TPU.
- Cold-resistant: It won't become brittle or crack even at temperatures as low as minus 35°C, making it a highly reliable accessory material for winter outdoor clothing.
- Oil and corrosion resistant: It is not easily damaged when exposed to oil stains and certain chemicals, making it perfect for workwear and protective clothing used in the chemical industry.
- Eco-friendly and odorless: It contains no harmful additives, has no peculiar smell, and is recyclable, meeting the current demand for green environmental protection.
- Repeated heat processable: It can be melted by heating and then shaped once cooled. This process can be repeated multiple times, making it ideal for hot melt adhesive films and heat pressing lamination applications.
As China’s national capital of textiles, Keqiao is home to numerous enterprises engaged in fabric and accessory production, ranging from basic TPU films to high-end composite fabrics and precision small accessories. The diverse applications of TPU present an excellent opportunity for TPU film manufacturers to leverage the local textile industrial foundation and seize the high-end garment accessory market.
